Quick start

Install NWriter, open a folder, and start writing in the desktop editor.

Install the desktop app

Download the installer for your platform, launch NWriter, then sign in and pick a model. Preferences and sessions are stored locally under `~/.nwriter/`.

macOS: open the .dmg and drag NWriter into Applications.
Windows: run the .exe installer, then launch NWriter from the Start menu.

Open a workspace

Choose Open workspace and select an empty book folder, or a folder that already contains a .txt manuscript. NWriter can create a structured novel project from that folder.

Start writing in the editor

Describe the story or ask to continue a chapter. Review updates in the manuscript tree and open files in the preview. You stay inside the desktop editor—no separate terminal workflow.
